Workshops

As well as providing facilities for members the studio often invites artists to give talks and demonstrations in a variety of techniques. These workshops cater for beginners as well as improvers.

As the Leinster Printmaking Studio is a ‘safe’ or ‘green’ studio, two most interesting workshop were given by Denise Walker, lecturer in printmaking at the Edinburgh College of Art to introduce safe methods like the acrylic resist etching technique.

Past workshops include Pamela Leonard, who gave a demonstration in relief printing, Paula Gleeson, from Lorg in Galway, who gave a workshop in safe etching, Carmel Benson gave one in carborundum and Val Hennigan demonstrated and tutored in linocut. Jill McKeown, from Seacourt in Bangor gave a series of workshops in photo etch and trained a member of the studio in this process.

Other recent workshops include a series of tutorials in plate lithography, by Liam O Broin, a workshop in plate lithography by Michael Timmons, as well as a workshop in drypoint by Lars Nyberg.

Members are informed of workshops well in advance. Upcoming workshops will be posted on the Notices section of this site.

Outreach

From the beginning, The Leinster Printmaking Studio has been associated with community organisations, local government, education providers and developmental agencies. The LPS continues to develop a programme of workshops in conjunction with Fás, VTOS, local Primary and Post-Primary Schools as well as various art groups.

The Leinster Printmaking Studio share expertise and promotes learning by participating in outreach services locally and nationally. The studio's portable press lends itself to providing printmaking workshops in other locations.

The studio offers an "Artist in Residence Programme in Printmaking" to Primary and Post-Primary schools and recently participated in a Kildare County Council Arts Service Outreach Programme with nine Primary Schools in the South Kildare region.

The studio regularly give demonstrations of printmaking at annual events such as the Ploughing Championships or the Hopkins Summer School
